Classics

This is only one.  One classic.  I could name plenty, but this song was a particular favorite of Owen’s.  He wasn’t a huge Clapton fan, though he appreciated his talent.  But, Layla.  What can I say?

I first saw the song performed live by Derek and the Dominoes at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium, sometime in the 70s.  The Steve Miller Band opened that night.  I was sitting in the rafters with a friend.  I can’t remember who, Libby maybe.  It wouldn’t have mattered where I sat.  I’ve never experienced rock concerts like those I saw in the 60s and 70s.  Owen and Nat used to love hearing stories of those old concerts.  Some things just can’t be replaced.

  1. Ah, Layla. I’ve snogged my way round the dancefloor many a time to that one, Linda. Although as it happens, Peaches and Diesel scored my greatest ever hit.

Clapton has something special. I can listen to JJ Cale sing Cocaine and he gives it so much, yet Clapton gives it more.

And the Steve Miller Band? Crikey. Or Abracadabra, at least.

  2. Linda, sure do miss your writing. Hope all is well as can possibly can be. Think of YOU, OWEN , YOUR FAMILY , daily.Such a tough journey, holding you close. Lov , Your Friend , Sandy Shanes MOM.
