Have You Ever Seen a Portal?
Owen, circa 2002, San Diego, photo by Linda
I’m not talking about a technology portal, a portal to a website, or a microsite. I’m talking about a portal to another world. A world beyond the one you live in, the one we agree to live in together. I’m talking about an open door. Owen talked of open doors often. He saw them and walked through them. What did he mean, when he talked of open doors?
For the moment, I’m going to leave it at - just this. I have my reasons. I’m sure you can imagine how difficult our journey is, and that if you were in our shoes, you might walk with the same tilted gait. We walk with effort now. We walk with an ever-present, calculated step. Walk with us. Owen did. And, he invited his brother on the trek. Walk with me, Nat. I’m a most peculiar man…and so are you.

I think I get what Owen meant, I think.
Open doors - opportunities (of every description) Yes?
When I went on my very first date with my then future husband - at the end of the evening he said: “And shall we open another door? Meet again? Life is full of doors we can open … or not.”
I chose to open that next door - and we did meet again, and again, and eventually 3 years worth of doors later we married and are still very happy.
So I think I get what Owen meant.
And I just love the music choice. Thank you.
I think I know what Owen was talking about. He sounds like an exceptional person, I wish I could have met him.
I know! The Navajos know! The Gaelic folk know! Aussie Aboriginals know and call it “the dreaming time” — but it is not what you ’see’ when you sleep!
I couldn’t help but smile when I read your post and recognized what you were writing about! I have done it all my life in this world and only had words to describe it and people to discuss it with in the last ten years. I am so very glad for you and both your son’s ability to see & go “beyond the veil”. It makes the ‘journey’ so much more interesting. namaste
Wow Linda-I have not heard this song in years! I remember listening to it many times “back in the day.” It’s interesting about the word “peculiar.” While it can mean eccentric, curious and odd, it also means special and distinctive. I like all of the above characteristics, which mean that you’re not like everyone else. The Hebrew definition of a “peculiar people” (which God has called us to be), means treasure, jewel, or valued property. How exciting is that!!! Owen was all these wonderful things! Hugs-Lonnette
A “peculiar” Portal in and of himself.
He loved the music of the Doors and he stood in the “Door Way” and looked both ways.
