Vampires and Bampyrrres…

One of Owen’s many favorite movies, was Interview with a Vampire.  He and I used to imitate the way Antonio Banderas said the word vampires - like this (think in Spanish) …bampyrrres (roll your r’s).  We would say it over and over, and laugh, and say it again.

Nat and Owen immersed themselves in Halloween, horror, suspense, and mystery movies in the weeks before Halloween in years past.  Often, I stopped in the living room and watched, then moved on with my night, having little attention span for things in the world of fantasy.  I grew up too fast, and missed out on many of the pleasures of childhood magic.  Occasionally, I watched whole movies with them.  I hid my eyes at the gross parts, and covered my ears during the screechy, scarey music parts.  They thought I was such a girl.

Thanks for thinking of me as a girl, guys.  I like being a girl, and I loved watching you guys grow up as guys.  I loved grabbing your arms and squeezing them, sometimes with my fingernails digging in (for effect), when the scenes turned to blood and guts…and you smiled, sometimes laughed out loud at my squeamishness.  Kids protecting their mom with laughter.  Awesome.  Funny.  Sweet.  Fantasy.  Halloween.

Song for the night:  Remember Me, Hoobastank (message from Owen to the bampyrrres “…you’re never going to be a part of me…”)

One Response to “Vampires and Bampyrrres…”

  1. It’s good to remember, Linda. Keep doing it. And keep writing about it.

It’s something I’m having trouble with and it makes the pain all that much worse. I wish I could remember. Memories are good.
